On November 8, 2024, the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) announced plans to establish technical standards for charging and data transfer methods for mobile smart devices, as well as broadcasting and telecommunications equipment. This initiative aims to reduce resource waste and enhance consumer convenience, with the key points as follows.
• Defines the scope and types of applicable equipment.
- Covers wireless broadcasting and telecommunications equipment, including mobile and smart devices that charge via wired methods or support simultaneous wired charging and data transfer.
- Applicable devices include mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, headsets, portable video game consoles, portable speakers, e-readers, keyboards, mice, portable navigation devices, earphones, and laptops.
• Specifies standards for USB Type-C receptacle connectors.
• Amends the conformity assessment notification to include USB Type-C receptacle connectors in the RRA conformity assessment equipment list.
