On May 23, 2025, Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) of Korea released a proposed amendment to the Regulations on Performance and Standards of Motor Vehicles and Motor Vehicle Parts.
Under the revised rules, critical accident-related driving data—such as records involving airbag deployment, activation of pedestrian protection systems, or significant speed changes—must be preserved and not overwritten. This change is part of an effort to align Korea’s requirements for event data recorders with international standards.
The amendment also revises the indication of the front passenger airbag status by eliminating the “Auto” setting. The display will now be limited to “On” or “Off” for greater clarity.
The amended regulation is scheduled to take effect on May 30, 2025.
