KATS Unveils Enhanced Product Market Surveillance Plan for 2025

South Korea's Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) has announced its 2025 Product Safety Investigation Plan, focusing on ensuring consumer safety and bolstering trust in the product market.

Key Initiatives for 2025:

  1. Expanded Safety Investigations for Overseas Direct Purchase Products
    • The number of inspected products will more than double, increasing from 450 in 2024 to over 1,000 in 2025.
    • Efforts will aim to block hazardous products from entering South Korea through international e-commerce platforms.
  2. Stricter Oversight of Domestically Distributed Products
    • Prioritizing items with fire and accident risks, KATS plans to investigate approximately 4,700 products.
  3. Crackdown on Illegal Products with Enhanced Cooperation
    • Collaboration with police and local governments will intensify efforts to remove non-KC-certified products from the market.
    • Partnerships with online platforms and consumer organizations will encourage voluntary adherence to safety standards.
  4. Improved Management of Recalled Products
    • Inspections of recall operators will be expanded to ensure compliance.
    • Consumers will receive direct notifications of recalls via online platforms.
    • Local governments and educational institutions will work together to prevent the redistribution of recalled products.

KATS is committed to actively implementing these measures to protect consumers and maintain a safer market environment.
