Korean MFDS Update
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) announced on May 31 that it will accept public comments until July 15 on the proposed amendments to the Enforcement Rules of the Act on Testing and Inspection in the Field of Food and Drugs, which include expanding the designation of overseas testing and inspection agencies to cover sanitary products.
To facilitate the convenience of importers of sanitary products, the designation of overseas testing and inspection agencies has been expanded to include sanitary products. By submitting test reports from overseas testing and inspection agencies designated under the Food and Drug Testing Act when importing sanitary products, import inspections for domestic customs clearance can be waived.
Additionally, provisions have been made to issue the designation certificates for testing and inspection agencies online, which were previously issued only as paper documents. Furthermore, when submitting an application for the designation of a testing and inspection agency, English information such as the agency name and location must also be provided to simplify the procedure for issuing the English designation certificate.
In addition, the application form for the designation of medical device testing and inspection agencies will be revised to allow for easier selection of the medical device items that can be tested and inspected by the agency.
