The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) inspected 420 products sold via purchasing agency services on Korean online platforms and found that 77 failed to meet safety standards. This is largely because some electrical and household products are sold without KC certification under this model.
Products that failed to meet safety standards: 77
- ⚡ Electrical products: 12
- 🏠 Household products: 38
- 🧸 Children’s products: 27
These products posed risks including fire, electric shock, harmful chemicals, and physical injury.
🚫 KATS has requested a sales suspension and shared details on the Product Safety Information Center.
⚖️ Legal action may follow for uncertified items requiring KC certification, especially children’s products.
KATS emphasized the higher non-compliance rate of uncertified overseas products and advised consumers to stay cautious. A separate inspection of direct overseas purchases is underway, with results expected late June. The agency plans to strengthen oversight of uncertified products sold online.
